Greece today: Metro Line 3 stations close at 21:40, e-ΕΦΚΑ's online complaints system, and two strikes on 21 October

Six Athens metro Line 3 stations close at 21:40 on Sunday to Thursday nights until 22 October 2026

Six stations on Athens metro Line 3 close at 21:40 on Sunday 11 to Thursday 15 October and Sunday 18 to Thursday 22 October 2026.¹²³⁴⁵⁶ The six stations are Panormou, Katechaki, Ethniki Amyna, Cholargos, Nomismatokopeio and Agia Paraskevi.¹²³⁴⁵⁶ Greek outlets attribute the announcement to ΣΤΑΣΥ (Σταθερές Συγκοινωνίες, Statheres Sygkoinonies), the company that runs the Athens metro.¹²³⁴⁵⁶ On those nights the six stations close about two and a half hours earlier than the normal end of service.¹²⁴ The reason is continuing work to replace the rails on the Ampelokipoi–Chalandri section of Line 3.¹²⁶

During the hours of the works on those nights, Line 3 trains run only between Dimotiko Theatro and Ampelokipoi, and between Chalandri, Doukissis Plakentias and the Airport.²³⁵⁶ On the affected nights, the last train from Dimotiko Theatro towards Doukissis Plakentias leaves at 21:12, and the last from Doukissis Plakentias towards Dimotiko Theatro at 21:30.⁴⁵

ΟΑΣΑ (Οργανισμός Αστικών Συγκοινωνιών Αθηνών, Organismos Astikon Sygkoinonion Athinon), the Athens transport authority, runs a temporary bus, the X20, between Ampelokipoi and Chalandri metro stations, serving all six closed stations.¹²³⁵⁶ The X20 runs from Sunday to Thursday, from 21:40 until the metro stops for the night.¹²³⁵⁶ By our reading of the announced dates, Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October 2026 are not affected; no outlet says so in as many words.²

e-ΕΦΚΑ opens a new online system for questions, reports and complaints on Monday 12 October 2026

From Monday 12 October 2026, e-ΕΦΚΑ (Ηλεκτρονικός Εθνικός Φορέας Κοινωνικής Ασφάλισης, Ilektronikos Ethnikos Foreas Koinonikis Asfalisis), Greece's unified social-security fund, opens a new system for questions, reports and complaints.⁷⁸⁹¹⁰ It is part of e-ΕΦΚΑ's new integrated IT system, and the fund announced it in press release 426 of 7 October 2026.⁷ People can send general or specific questions, reports and complaints without e-mailing different contact points or going to an office in person.⁷⁸⁹ Each request is routed automatically to the department responsible, which examines it and replies.⁷⁸ e-ΕΦΚΑ describes the system as one more step in its digital transformation, aimed at simpler procedures, faster handling and serving people remotely.⁷

Press release 426 gives no web address or login method for the new system.⁷⁸⁹ It also does not say whether the existing e-mail addresses will close.⁷⁸⁹

Primary-school teachers and hospital doctors strike on Wednesday 21 October 2026

ΔΟΕ (Διδασκαλική Ομοσπονδία Ελλάδας, Didaskaliki Omospondia Elladas), the federation of primary-school teachers, has called a 24-hour strike for Wednesday 21 October 2026.¹¹¹²¹³ The strike covers primary schools and kindergartens across Greece, and was decided by ΔΟΕ's board.¹²¹³¹⁴ ΔΟΕ's reasons include runaway prices, frozen pay, the targeting of teachers, the many unfilled teaching posts, and the downgrading of the all-day school and of special education.¹¹ Reports also highlight ΔΟΕ's opposition to covering staff shortages through compulsory overtime.¹²¹³ The strike is not a general order for schools to close, Alpha reports.¹³

ΟΕΝΓΕ (Ομοσπονδία Ενώσεων Νοσοκομειακών Γιατρών Ελλάδας, Omospondia Enoseon Nosokomeiakon Giatron Elladas), the federation of hospital doctors' unions, is also striking on Wednesday 21 October 2026, with rallies across the country.^15161718 ΟΕΝΓΕ's statement gives the Athens rally as 12:00 at the Ministry of Finance.¹⁵ Its demands include doubling doctors' monthly pay, bringing back the 13th and 14th salary, raising the tax-free allowance to €12,000 plus €3,000 for each child, and advertising every vacant permanent post.¹⁵¹⁶¹⁸
