Isolation Ends for Eastern Pelion: Restoration Projects Launch Immediately in Anilio and Plaka
After a long period of waiting and transport difficulties, residents and business professionals in Eastern Pelion finally see a path forward for the restoration of severe damage left by the unprecedented Daniel and Elias floods.
The official decision, signed on April 16, 2026, greenlights the immediate commencement of works on the road network connecting Anilio with Plaka in the Municipality of Zagora-Mouresi (Δήμος Ζαγοράς – Μουρεσίου). Due to the severity of the situation and the need for rapid solutions, the state has decided to bypass time-consuming bureaucratic procedures, proceeding with the "direct award with negotiation" method.
Speed and efficiency
The decision is based on study number 4114/23.03.2026 and classifies the project as an "urgent need." This means that contractor selection and the start of works will be handled through "express" procedures so that the roads can be returned to full circulation as soon as possible. Additionally, the decision includes the definition of works for the restoration of the region's beaches, which constitute the primary pillar of the local economy.
The Tender Evaluation Committee has already been appointed to review the files of the invited technical firms, ensuring the project is awarded to reliable entities.
What this means for businesses
This development is of vital importance for the business community of Magnesia (Μαγνησία), and particularly for tourism and agricultural enterprises:
- Supply Chain Restoration: The repair of the Anilio - Plaka road axis will allow the transport of products and goods without the delays and additional costs caused by the damaged roads.
- Tourism Season Readiness: The restoration of beaches and access to them is the "key" for the operation of lodging and catering businesses. Professionals can now plan their operations with greater certainty.
- Increase in Local Employment: The restoration projects will create an immediate need for labor and technical services in the region during the construction phase.
The decision carries the Online Publication Number (ΑΔΑ): Ε63ΥΩΡΚ-ΠΛ4 and is available on Diavgeia (Διαύγεια, the Greek government's mandatory transparency portal for administrative acts).
