Greek State to Participate in Public Power Corporation's Share Capital Increase
The Ministry of National Economy and Finance officially announced its intention to participate in the upcoming Share Capital Increase (AMK) of the Public Power Corporation (PPC, or ΔΕΗ in Greek). The primary objective of this move is to maintain, directly or indirectly, the Greek State's participation stake at 33.4%, confirming the government's firm support for the company's strategic plan.
The government's decision follows the April 23, 2026, announcement regarding the proposed share capital increase of €4 billion ($4.36 billion), which is linked to the company's Strategic Plan 2030. As highlighted, the government decisively supports the management’s design, which aims to accelerate PPC’s transformation and further strengthen its developmental role.
Energy Security and Strategic Autonomy
In an international environment characterized by increased uncertainty, the Ministry of Finance emphasizes that energy is primarily a matter of security and strategic autonomy. From this perspective, strengthening PPC emerges as a central strategic choice for the country. The Ministry makes it clear that maintaining a strong and increased state participation in the enterprise is a central political choice, aimed on one hand at protecting the public interest and on the other at creating long-term value.
The Modern Role of PPC
According to the announcement, PPC has now evolved into a modern, vertically integrated energy group. The company's contribution is characterized as decisive both for the national economy and for the critical process of the energy transition. Ongoing investments in the sectors of production, networks, and provided services act as a boost to market competitiveness. Simultaneously, they ensure the provision of reliable and affordable energy for citizens and businesses.
Broader Economic Planning
The state's participation in the share capital increase is not an isolated action but is part of a clear and broader strategy. As characteristically stated, the government's pursuit is to strengthen investments and shape larger and stronger Greek enterprises. The ultimate goal of this policy is to accelerate the transition to a more extroverted Greece, which will possess companies capable of competing at an international level while consistently and lastingly supporting the overall growth of the economy.
